I guess it is true that making guns illegal doesn't necessarily end gun violence, but it should curb it a little bit. It just scares me that apparently, people have loaded weapons next to their front doors here! I guess I am really naive to think we don't "need" one? I just don't know what can be done anymore to feel safe. I have never truly felt safe in our neighborhood, and it's not the "ghetto". I lived in Japan for 2 years and had no fears riding the subways and trains in Tokyo by myself in the middle of the night. That has to say something about their culture vs. ours.
Maybe we should start our own country of happy hippies;)

God how scary for you. So lucky you weren't around at the time.
Every time a shooting from America filters through to our news I am truly grateful we live in a country where firearms are illegal. The thought of lving in a country where any person you walk past on the street could be carrying a gun truly terrifies me, especially that it seems to be teens who get hold of guns & lose the plot & go on sprees. I find it pretty shocking that the average joe has access to a device designed for killing.
But even in a country where guns are illegal, I turn on the news every day & see just as much shocking violence here, even alot of gang violence involving illegal firearms.
No matter where you live there just seem to be more & more nutjobs everywhere. I'm truly terrified of when my kids are highschool age when I see how much gang violence & bashings & alcholol induced violence goes on. It seems to get worse with each generation.
